Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery stars Mike Myers, Michael York, Elizabeth
Hurley, Robert Wagner, and Seth Green. Myers plays the title character as well as the title
character's nemesis, Dr. Evil. Dr. Evil keeps trying to destroy the world (but tries to take
out Austin first), but Austin keeps stopping them. The beginning of this movie takes place in
the 60's at a London nightclub, where Austin foils yet another one of Dr. Evil's attempts to
destroy him. Evil escapes in a cryogenic freezing chamber, to return in the 90's. His plan to
destroy the world this time is to hijack a nuclear weapon and use it to somehow make every
volcano in the world erupt at the same time. Fortunately, Austin has volunteered to freeze
himself as well, in the event Dr. Evil should ever return.
After Austin is unfrozen, he slowly but surely finds everything has changed in the thirty years he's been frozen. However, to help Austin transition to the 90's, the British Ministry of Defence, headed by Basil Exposition (York), assigns agent Vanessa Kensington (Hurley), the daughter of Austin's 60's sidekick, to assist him in hunting down Dr. Evil. Despite Austin and Vanessa's differences, they eventually fall in love with each other (while in Vegas posing as a married couple in order to infiltrate Dr. Evil's operations), and Austin even lets go of his "60's swinging philosophy" for her. Dr. Evil has also found that things have changed since the 60's. For one, he learns that his right hand man, known as Number Two (Wagner), has transformed his evil operation into a legitimate business. He also finds that some of his old evil ploys against the world are obsolete (for instance, he cannot use sharks to kill Austin because they're endangered). Biggest of all, he discovers he has a son, Scott (Green), who was artificially created in the lab from Evil's sperm.
