Bedazzled stars Brendan Fraser, Frances O'Connor, and Elizabeth Hurley. In this movie,
Elliot Richards (Fraser) is a stereotypical loser: he works at a job he dislikes and he has no
real friends. He spends his nights crying himself to sleep. He gets a crush on Allison
(O'Connor), one of his co-workers, but he cannot work up the courage to properly ask her out.
He tried one time, but was rejected. The devil (Hurley) takes note of how sad Elliot's life is,
and she makes a deal with him: in exchange for his soul, she will grant him seven wishes.
However, Elliot finds out there is a catch to this (apart from losing his soul): his wishes
never quite turn out exactly the way he wants; the devil always puts an unpleasant twist on his
wishes. For example, for his second wish, he wishes to be rich, but he does not say how he gets
rich, and the devil makes him regret how he got rich in that alternate reality. Almost all of
his wishes involve finding a way to make Allison fall for him, but that does not happen in any
of his alternate realities. Elliot tries to get out of his deal by refusing to make a seventh
wish, but he finds out he will rot in hell if he does not, and it seems he is helpless. He
learns that how far one goes in life is not as important as how one gets there.
