Bio-Dome stars William Atherton, Pauly Shore, and Stephen Baldwin. This movie begins with
an ad for the Bio-Dome, a scientific experiment in which five scientists, headed by Dr. Noah
Faulkner (Atherton), for one year from Earth Day to Earth Day, live off an ecosystem in which
life is artificially sustained, much like Earth without human interference. They must maintain
homeostasis within the system. Meanwhile, junior college students Bud (Shore) and Doyle
(Baldwin) have two girlfriends who are environmentalists and want them to help make Earth a
better place on Earth Day. They pull a stunt to get out of it, which angers their girlfriends,
who then tell Bud and Doyle they've met two swimmers at the Earth Day event and send the two on
a wild goose chase to a location near the Bio-Dome. After Bud and Doyle find they were tricked,
Doyle has to take a leak, and they enter the Bio-Dome, thinking it is a mall. Of course, before
they can get out, the doors automatically lock behind them, meaning they are stuck in the dome
for a whole year with the five scientists. The scientists do not take kindly to this, as they
had accomodations for only five people, but Dr. Faulkner insists they cannot let the two out
without compromising the experiment. Eventually, Bud and Doyle go crazy and start creating all
kinds of chaos in the dome, such as bathing in the rain forest water tub, using the food
supply to make smoothies, among other things. In fact, they create so much trouble that they
are banished to the desert. There, they discover another door out of the dome, and when they
get out, they find someone from their college is throwing a party to supposedly promote
environmental awareness. Bud and Doyle decide they must throw their own bash, and they throw it
in the dome. When their girlfriends find out about this, they break up with Bud and Doyle, as
they are utterly disappointed that they don't care about anything and they would mess up the
Bio-Dome. The next day, Bud and Doyle decide they must make things right, and they convince the
Bio-Dome scientists to stay in the dome (even though they think it's hopeless) and work extra
hard to restore homeostasis within the dome to 100% by the next Earth Day (it dropped to as low
as 1% following Bud and Doyle's party). However, only four of the five scientists are on
board, as Dr. Faulkner has gone insane and retreated to the Bio-Dome basement; he plans to rig
some bombs (disguised as coconuts) and blow up the dome.
