Bruce Almighty stars Jim Carrey, Morgan Freeman, and Jennifer Aniston. Carrey plays Bruce
Nolan, a Buffalo, NY Eyewitness News reporter who does the "lighter side of the news." He has
been trying to become an anchorman, but Eyewitness News announces one of his colleagues gets
the job instead, and he goes crazy on the air and gets fired, which begins a string of bad
luck incidents. He then complains that God (Freeman) is ignoring him, which leads to a call
from God Himself. God challenges Bruce to do a better job than He, and Bruce accepts the
challenge, which means he gets all of God's powers, except he cannot mess with free will. As
expected, Bruce uses his newfound powers to make his own life better, including sabotaging the
new Eyewitness News anchorman. However, on his quest to make himself a big shot, he ends up
estranging himself from his girlfriend Grace Connelly (Aniston), who had been expecting him to
propose. In addition, he soon starts to hear others' prayers, as it is God's job to listen to
others' prayers. This drives Bruce so crazy, he simply says "Yes" to all of them, which has
disastrous consequences. For instance, everyone in Buffalo wins the lottery, causing a riot in
the streets. This teaches Bruce an important lesson that being God isn't so easy after all.
