Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story stars Vince Vaughn, Ben Stiller, Rip Torn, and Christine
Taylor. In this movie, Peter LaFleur (Vaughn) is the owner of a failing gym known as Average
Joe's. Peter is so far behind on Average Joe's mortgage payments that the bank foreclosed on
the gym, and the mortgage was purchased by the highly successful gym, known as Globo Gym, which
is operated by White Goodman (Stiller). White plans to bulldoze Average Joe's to make more
parking space for his members. Peter must come up with $50,000 in thirty days in order to
prevent Average Joe's from being destroyed. After a failed car wash attempt, the members and
employees of Average Joe's discover they can raise the $50,000 by winning a dodgeball
tournament in Las Vegas, NV. However, none of them are any good at dodgeball, as most of
Peter's members have never played it before. In fact, while Average Joe's does qualify for the
tournament, the only reason they get in is because the team they had to play against got
disqualified for using drugs. Also, White does not stand idly by while Peter and his gym's
members go for the $50,000; he decides Globo Gym needs its own dodgeball team as well to stop
Peter, and Globo Gym also successfully enters the national dodgeball tournament. However,
Peter gets help from former dodgeball legend Patches O'Houlihan (Torn), who becomes the team's
new coach. Also joining Peter's team is attorney Kate Veatch (Taylor), who had been working on
the acquisition of Average Joe's by Globo Gym until White successfully got her fired in a
desperate attempt to date her. Kate happens to be great at dodgeball, due to eight years of
playing softball, and she wants to see White go down. Still, Average Joe's must face White's
team of highly skilled dodgeball players, including one who comes from a country where
dodgeball is its national sport, and Joe's must beat several other dodgeball teams as well.
