Hot Rod stars Andy Samberg, Ian McShane, Danny R. McBride, Bill Hader, Jorma Taccone,
and Isla Fisher. In this movie, Rod Kimble (Samberg) has always believed his late father was an
anonymous stuntman. Rod is determined to be a stuntman himself to follow in his late father's
footsteps, even though he appears to be the world's worst stuntman. His stepfather, Frank
(McShane), is constantly on his case for his "failure to be a man" and mocks his stuntman dream.
In an attempt to gain Frank's respect, Rod often challenges Frank to a fight, but Rod has yet to
win a single one. Later, Rod finds out that Frank has had heart problems for twenty-one years
and is now facing certain death, unless he can pay $50,000 for heart surgery. Unwilling to let
Frank die without having first earned his respect, Rod stumbles upon an idea to jump fifteen
buses in order to raise the money to save Frank's life. Rod gets his crew - Rico (McBride), Dave
(Hader), and team manager and half-brother Kevin (Taccone) - on board. Later, Rod adds Denise
(Fisher), a college graduate to whom he is attracted, to his crew. Rod plans to raise the money
to fund his jump by working parties, corporate get-togethers, and other events. Kevin also films
footage of Rod's stunts to use in an upcoming movie. However, Rod becomes embarrassed by his
movie because it shows Rod's failed stunt attempts and everyone laughs at it. Infuriated, Rod
destroys the film projector as well as someone's car and he ends up losing all the money he had
raised for Frank.
