Idiocracy stars Luke Wilson, Maya Rudolph, Dax Shepard, and Terry Crews. This movie
begins with the idea that evolution favors stupid people in modern times, because they tend to
reproduce at a much faster rate than smart people. This idea is unintentionally proven correct
when US Army librarian Joe Bauers (Wilson) and prostitute Rita (Rudolph) are selected to
participate in a human hibernation experiment (although Joe never figures out Rita is a
prostitute). They are supposed to hibernate for only a year, but the project is forgotten when
the officer in charge is arrested for starting a prostitution ring under Upgrayedd, Rita's
pimp. Joe and Rita are revived 500 years later, in the year 2505, when their hibernation
chambers are thrust open in the 'Great Garbage Avalanche of 2505' - evolution had dumbed down
society so much they couldn't even solve simple problems such as garbage disposal. Joe's
chamber crashes into the apartment of Frito Pendejo (Shepard). Frito is, of course, named after
the popular chip brand. Joe visits the hospital, believing there's something wrong with him,
only to find himself with a doctor who is highly incompetent by today's standards. Joe is
unable to pay his hospital bill because he does not have the required bar code tattoo on his
left wrist. It is also in the hospital that he finally realizes 500 years have passed since he
went into hibernation. Eventually, he is arrested for not paying his hospital bill and not
having his barcode tattoo. Frito turns out to be his lawyer at the trial, but he only helps to
convict Joe. Before Joe goes to prison, he does get his barcode tattoo, but the machine is so
badly designed, it names him "Not Sure." Once at prison, he easily escapes since society is so
dumb he is easily the smartest man alive, even though he was the army's most "average" soldier
in 2005. Joe goes to Frito's apartment and asks him if there is a time machine he can use to
get back to 2005, and Frito tells him there is one. Joe and Frito find Rita on the way to the
time machine, and their journey leads them to a Costco (where Frito had gone to law school).
Unfortunately, Joe is, once again, arrested there, but this time, instead of going back to
prison, he is taken to the White House, as an earlier IQ test has indicated he is the smartest
man alive. President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camancho (Crews) designates Joe
Secretary of the Interior to correct the world's problems, such as the food, econonmic, and
garbage crises, and promises Joe a pardon if he does a good enough job. Joe finds he can solve
the food shortage problem when he notices the food crops are being watered with sports drink
Brawndo instead of actual water. By 2505, Brawndo had replaced water on all levels except for
the toilet (they use Brawndo in drinking fountains, feed babies with Brawndo instead of milk,
livestock drink Brawndo instead of water, etc.). Joe manages to convince society that plants
need water to grow by claiming that he can talk to plants, and the plants tell him they crave
water. Unfortunately, before the food supply noticeably improves, the unemployment rate
skyrockets because his idea causes the Brawndo Corporation's stock to plummet, and half the
nation works for Brawndo. Joe is later found guilty of "shit" and sentenced to death by
"Rehabilitation," which is an extreme demolition derby. Rita, however, discovers the food crops
are growing due to Joe's reintroduction of water, and it is up to her, with Frito's help, to
stop the people from killing the only person who is trying to help them.
