Mr. Deeds stars Adam Sandler, Peter Gallagher, and Winona Ryder. At the beginning of this
movie, Preston Blake, owner of the Blake Media corporation (a network of hundreds of television
and radio stations and employer of tens of thousands), dies after climbing to the top of Mount
Everest. Apparently, Longfellow Deeds (Sandler), a kindhearted invidual and owner of Deeds
Pizza in the small town of Mandrake Falls, NH, is Preston's nephew, and he stands to inherit
Preston's $40 billion fortune. Preston's right-hand man, Chuck Cedar (Gallagher), who hopes to
maintain control of Blake Media, shows up in Deeds' town to take him to New York City, where
Deeds' story makes major news. Tabloid reporter Babe Bennett (Ryder) goes undercover as Pam
Dawson to get a story out of Deeds, but complicates things by actually falling for Deeds, who
would be heartbroken if he learns the truth about Babe the wrong way.
