The Rocker
The Rocker stars Rainn Wilson, Jane Lynch, Jeff Garlin, Josh Gad, Teddy Geiger, Emma
Stone, Jason Sudeikis, and Christina Applegate. In this movie, in the mid 1980's, Robert
"Fish" Fishman (Wilson) was the drummer for the fictional rock band Vesuvius. However, just
before Vesuvius's rise to fame, Fish is thrown out of the band in exchange for the opportunity
for its remaining members to open for Whitesnake (a real 80's hair metal band). Twenty years
later, Fish fails at yet another cubicle job and moves in with his sister and brother-in-law,
Lisa (Lynch) and Stan Gadman (Garlin), with Stan being much more sympathetic to Fish's
situation than Lisa is. In general, Fish is very unhappy with his life and blames Vesuvius for
it. Just when Fish is about to give up all hope, opportunity knocks again in the form of his
nephew, Matt (Gad), being the keyboardist in a band known as A.D.D. - A.D.D is in need of a
drummer to play at his high school Prom. Matt convinces his other bandmates, lead singer and
guitarist Curtis Powell (Geiger) and bassist Amelia Stone (Stone), to let Fish play in A.D.D.
Although reluctant at first, Fish agrees, but he blows the Prom gig and is temporarily thrown
out of the band. However, he is invited back in to the band when he gets A.D.D. a gig in
Indiana. The Indiana gig does not work out, though, as he had to steal Lisa's van to drive
there, and Lisa found out.
Fish is subsequently kicked out of Lisa's home and moves into the basement of a Chinese restaurant. Luckily for A.D.D., Matt figures out a way for the band to practice over the internet. Since the basement of the Chinese restaurant is hot, Fish practices naked, and a video of this gets leaked onto the Internet, which becomes a hit and grabs the attention of an agent, David Marshall (Sudeikis). A.D.D. soon goes on a cross country tour, but this gets the best of Fish, who takes his rock star life too far and destroys hotel property, resulting in an arrest. It seems like all is over for A.D.D., but Curtis's mother, Kim (Applegate), agrees to chaperone the kids and keep Fish in check so the other band members' parents can rest easy. This initially does not sit well with Fish, but soon Kim and Fish grow on each other, and at one point, they even share a kiss. Trouble arises, however, when David does not want to promote Fish as a part of A.D.D., and he tries to convince Curtis to fire Fish. At one point, David is nearly successful, when he offers A.D.D. an opportunity to open for Vesuvius, which, of course, angers Fish. Furthermore, David lies about Fish and Kim having relations, which prompts Curtis to take David up on the offer to open for Vesuvius, resulting in Fish quitting A.D.D. However, Curtis, Matt, and Amelia do not like their replacement drummer and find A.D.D. is not the same without Fish.
