Van Wilder: Freshman Year, the follow up to
Van Wilder and
Van Wilder 2: The Rise of Taj, stars Jonathan
Bennett, Kurt Fuller, Nestor Aaron Absera, Jerry Shea, Steve Talley, and Kristin Cavallari. At
the beginning of this movie, which is set before the original
Van Wilder, Van Wilder (Bennett) has just
graduated from high school and is set to follow in his father's tradition of graduating from
the fictional Coolidge College. Van has heard from his father that Coolidge is a party school,
but when he arrives on campus, he finds that it is now a religious and military institution run
by Dean Charles Reardon (Fuller). Reardon also highly dislikes Van's father, and he seeks to
make Van's life on campus miserable, since Reardon cannot force Van out due to his father's
wealth and ties to Coolidge. Van's room assignment is a closet filled with boxes, but he breaks
down a wall to extend another dorm room. His new roommate is Farley (Absera), a pothead from
Jamaica. Van also becomes good friends with another freshman from China, Yu (Shea). Coolidge
has rules against partying, sex, drinking, or anything else "fun," and the three guys decide
that it's time the rules change. Van starts by pulling a prank involving erotic pleasure during
a church service. This, of course, angers Reardon, who rightfully suspects Van was behind this
prank, and he enlists the help of his Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) student sidekick,
Dirk (Talley), to make sure Van falls in line. Van is also required to join the ROTC to
graduate from Coolidge, and his group is headed by the beautiful Kaitlin (Cavallari), whose
goal is to follow her own family's tradition by becoming an army officer.
