Yes Man stars Jim Carrey and Zooey Deschanel. At the beginning of this movie, Los
Angeles bank employee Carl Allen (Carrey) is a guy whose life seems to be stuck in a rut. His
spare time is always spent watching DVD's alone in his apartment, and he has apparently been
this way ever since his ex divorced him three years ago. One day, after getting off of work,
one of his friends tells him to attend a "Yes" seminar. After another one of his friends warns
him he will end up alone forever if he does not change, Carl decides to go to the seminar.
After this, he makes a promise to himself that he will say "yes" to every opportunity that
presents itself thereafter. He starts by driving a homeless person to the woods, letting him
talk on his cell phone, and giving him all of his money. After this ordeal, Carl finds his car
has run out of gasoline, and when he fills up a plastic container at the nearest gas station,
he meets Allison (Deschanel), who is filling up her scooter at the time. She takes his picture
and offers to give him a lift back to his car, which of course, he accepts. Carl and Allison
share a kiss after she drops him off, and Allison later becomes his girlfriend after he sees
her band play, thanks to her band's promoter offering Carl tickets. Carl quickly finds Allison
is quite the opposite of what he was before the "yes" program: Allison tries to live her life
spontaneously, which only makes Carl fall for her more. Saying "yes" pays off for Carl in other
ways as well: he approves almost every loan that comes his way at the bank, including many
small loans, which actually significantly increase the bank's cash flow and land Carl a job
with the big boys; he takes guitar lessons, which come in handy later when he uses a guitar to
"talk down" a jumper.
